Russell Brand has publicly weighed in on reports that his ex-wife Katy Perry is dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, delivering a blunt and controversial reaction during a live appearance.

The comedian, 50, made the remarks while speaking onstage at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix on Thursday. Addressing the audience, Brand referenced his past marriage to Perry, 41, before turning his attention to her rumored new relationship.

Brand said he still cares for Perry but admitted he was surprised by her reported choice of partner. He joked that he had no issue when Perry previously dated actor Orlando Bloom, but questioned her connection with Trudeau, 53, adding sharp criticism of the former world leader.

Brand and Perry were married from 2010 to 2012, with Brand filing for divorce. Perry later entered a long-term relationship with Bloom, whom she met in 2016. The couple became engaged in 2019 but called off their engagement earlier this year after nine years together. They share a daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, born in 2020.

Rumors linking Perry and Trudeau first surfaced in July 2025, when the pair were seen spending time together in Montreal. Sources at the time said the two shared an immediate connection but were taking things slowly due to their busy lives. They later made their first public appearance together in October 2025 at a Paris cabaret event celebrating Perry’s birthday.

Brand’s comments arrive amid ongoing legal challenges for the comedian. Earlier this year, he was charged with multiple counts related to sexual assault allegations involving incidents dating back more than two decades. Brand has denied all accusations, stating he strongly disputes the claims.

Neither Perry nor Trudeau has publicly responded to Brand’s remarks.
